Fishing Dayz
Fishing Dayz is a local fishing outing that we hold once a month on nearby rivers and streams.
Casting and fishing instruction is available to anyone interested. No experience is necessary. We'll team you with a mentor.
Wade fishing and floating groups are coordinated prior to getting out on the water. If you are interested in floating, bring your pontoon, canoe, kayak, float tube or SUP. If you're short on equipment, let us know and we'll do our best to get you outfitted.
We fish the Chattahoochee Tailwater often since it's our closest river. If our scheduled spot gets blown out because of rain or water releases, we usually move upstream or to Smith Creek at Unicoi State Park in Helen as a back-up. Smith Creek fishes well in all but the heaviest of downpours. Changes to our back-up location will be announced at breakfast which is held at a local restaurant and the location is announced before the event.
Locations for Fishing Dayz are selected with the following in mind:
- An easy drive from the Roswell area.
- Large enough for 10 to 12 anglers.
- Comfortable wading and open casting.
- Adequate parking available.
- Space for casting instruction.
During the Delayed Harvest season, we'll have a preference for those sections. Afterward, we'll explore other areas. In the warmer months, plan on a trip targeting bass, bream, and carp at one of the local lakes in the area, or a trip below Morgan Falls Dam for shoal bass, carp, and striped bass. Remember that there is a $3 daily parking fee in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA). You can also purchase an annual pass on the CRNRA website for $35 or call the Island Ford Visitor Contact Station at 678-538-1200.
Fishing Dayz is an opportunity for those both new and familiar with fly fishing to get together and enjoy a day's fishing and each other. If you have a location or idea for a Fishing Dayz event, or would like more information about our Fishing Dayz events, please contact president@ucctu.org.
