Women’s Fly Fishing Clinic
Upper Chattahoochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Alpharetta Outfitters have hosted a FREE 1/2-Day Fly Fishing Clinic for women the last three years.
This clinic is a fun afternoon and an opportunity to learn fly fishing basics -- learning the ABC's of what fly fishing is all about and to determine if the sport is something you'd like to pursue. Several learning stations at the Chattahoochee Nature Center's lakeside pavilion are set up and all participants circulate to each of the stations during the afternoon.

The stations include the following:
The history of the Chattahoochee and why the river needs to be protected and preserved. Receive a short course on the river's 'bugs' that are imitated as 'flies' – used to catch trout and other aquatic species. You'll also hear about and view a stream display model designed to show both a healthy river and one that's very polluted.
Before you begin your fly fishing adventure you'll need to know the basic knots used to secure your fly to the tippet and tippet to the line and line to the backing. Sounds complicated? It really isn't. Come and learn the basic knots to get started fishing.
Once you've mastered the fine art of fly fishing, you'll want to start tying your own flies. There are thousands of different fly patterns out there, but you really only need to know 10 or so to get out on the river and fish. It's a great hobby and a lot of fun.
Work with certified instructors and fly fishing guides to learn the gentle art of fly casting.
Our sponsor, Alpharetta Outfitters, will have a tent set up and experts on hand to guide you in what gear you'll need to get out on the river. From waders to boots to vests and
nippers the experts at AO will help you put together a great shopping list. Ask questions and learn from the pros.
